The Bullshittery Blog is back in action after a loooong hiatus in the BBQ trenches. We’ve still been beatin’ down that road hitting every BBQ competition we can while still hanging on to our day job’s. Life is good. The Gods of Meat,Smoke,and Pilsner have blessed our travels this year with some great finishes along with some great new friends. We’ve been lucky to have 3 Grand Championships and 1 Reserve Grand so far this season. We are thankful to all our sponsors old and new who have stuck with us! Located on beautiful Lake Minneola in Clermont,FL Cheryl Fishel puts on a great event and this year was no different. In its 13th year this contest attracts thousands of spectators from all over the world. Team Unknown was able to speak to people from all parts of the United States, Canada,and Europe! We had a great cook and everything came together for us for a 10th place pork, 2nd place ribs, and a 1st place brisket securing the team its first Grand Championship of the season. As a professional BBQ cook you need to focus on the “The little things”, the aspects of your cook that you directly control. You have control over the cuts of meat you choose and prep. You have control over your flavor profile, your cooker , your finishing temps, and how you present your entry. You have control over what smoke wood to use and how much. You have control over your attitude, your spirit, your passion, and your good sportsmanship. The bigger things are not in your control. Dont concern yourself with the judges, or the way the other team is performing. You cant control the crowd, the judges, or your teamates. Dont focus on these aspects. The bigger things will take care of themselves. If you focus on the bigger things=the calls, the opponent, then your individual effort will suffer. Keep your mind and body focused on only the items that you can control and that you need to perform. When you execute the little things to perfection, then the calls and the victory will take care of themselves! The victory will happen. It will happen because each one of you has done your part. Your collective effort will come together as a victory ! Ft. Pierce FL. is home to country music legend Gary Stewart,Cattle ranching,World Class fishing,and “Cowboys steak & BBQ” companys annual FBA BBQ Competition. This years field included over 30 of the Souths finest BBQ cooks battling it out for cash and prizes worth thousands of dollars. Luckily for Team Unknown our cook went off without a hitch bringing us a Reserve Grand Championship in our first comp. of the season!!! Congrats goes out to the legendary Forrest Dillmore of Forrest’s fine foods on winning Grand Champion! Thanks to all our friends and fans for all the support. Keep in mind that their were very few rules back then and the canadian dude out weighed Deisuel by nearly 100 pounds. After the loss Berto was headed to Australia for another fight but got injured badly in a car crash.
Team Unknown was invited back for a 2nd year to serve BBQ at the worlds largest backyard party, Roscoes!!! The Unknown Militia stepped up to the plate and worked hard to keep the train on the tracks all while having a damn good time.
